Getting Here

The Menemsha Inn is located in the 300 year-old fishing village of Menemsha on the Island of Martha's Vineyard. There is no bridge or tunnel to this island paradise, so plan your travel accordingly.

The Island encompasses six towns spread over 87 square miles. While there is public transportation and taxi service available, we recommend that you bring your vehicle or rent one here on the island.


By Sea

During the warm weather, there are a number of ferry lines that will bring you to the island. The Steamship Authority has the only ferries that carry vehicles and departs from Woods Hole, MA.

Arriving from Woods Hole, MA

The Steamship Authority carries both vehicles and passengers. Vehicles need a reservation, while walk-on passengers do not. Vessels operate between Woods Hole and docks in Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs. Operates year-round.

Arriving from Falmouth, MA

The Island Queen is a passenger-only vessel which travels to Oak Bluffs Harbor on a 35-minute scenic sail. Reservations are not required. Operates seasonally.

The Pied Piper is 72-foot, passenger-only, luxury fast ferry which travels to Edgartown on a 35-minute scenic sail. Reservations recommended. Operates seasonally.

You may view schedules, purchase tickets and make specific travel time reservations after ticket purchase..

Arriving from Hyannis, MA

Travel aboard Lady Martha with Hy Line Cruises for seasonal, high-speed service or choose seasonal, traditional service aboard Brant Point. Reservations are the only way to guarantee available space on these passenger-only vessels.

Vessels operate between Hyannis and docks in Oak Bluffs. Operates seasonally.

Arriving from New Bedford, MA

Travel with New England Fast Ferry for seasonal, high-speed service to Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Check schedules and purchase tickets through their website. Service is also available from New Jersey and New York City to Martha's Vineyard, as well as Boston to Martha's Vineyard.

Operates from April through November and reservations are recommended.

Arriving from Quonset Point, RI

Travel with Vineyard Fast Ferry for seasonal, luxury, high-speed service to Oak Bluffs. Travel aboard the Ava Pearl on a 95-minute cruise to Martha's Vineyard, and enjoy Business Class Service, Beurteaux seating, interior luggage areas and flat screen satellite TVs. Check schedules and book a trip through their website.

Ava Pearl operates between Quonset and Oak Bluffs. Operates seasonally.

Arriving from Manhattan, NY and Highlands, NJ

Travel with Seastreak for seasonal, high-speed service to Oak Bluffs. Check schedules and purchase tickets through their website.

Seastreak's Martha's Vineyard division operates two high-speed catamaran ferries with capacity of up to 149 passengers. Reservations are recommended.

Arriving by Personal Vessel

The Menemsha Inn is located a short distance from Menemsha Harbor which offers 25 transient slips and 6 mooring spots. Menemsha Harbor welcomes recreational and commercial boaters but does not accept slip or mooring reservations in advance. On the morning of your anticipated arrival, please call the Harbor at (508) 645-2846 at 7:00 a.m. (0700). Available slips or moorings will be held pending your arrival later in the day. Only Mastercard and Visa accepted.

Upon Arrival

From the Steamship Authority in Vineyard Haven

  1. Turn left as you leave the ferry. Everybody else will be doing the same, so follow traffic.
  2. Proceed one block, to the first stop sign. Turn right onto Beach Road.
  3. Continue up a slight hill bearing slightly to the left after one block, and stay on the main road out of town (road becomes State Road).
  4. After approximately 2.5 miles there will be a fork. Bear right, staying on State Road.
  5. After another 2.5 miles, watch for a right turn onto North Road. There is a sign there pointing you towards Menemsha.
  6. Continue on North Road for about 5.6 miles. Menemsha Inn & Cottages will be on your right.
  7. Watch for our sign on the right just after the intersection with Menemsha Cross Road.
  8. If you pass the Beach Plum Inn sign, you’ve gone too far.

From Oak Bluffs Steamship Authority Terminal

  1. From Steamship Authority-Head straight as you leave the Ferry Terminal.
  2. Pass Oak Bluffs Harbor on the right.

From Matha's Vineyard Airport

  1. Follow Airport Road to the end. Turn right on Edgartown West Tisbury Road and proceed for approximately 3.4 miles.
  2. At the End of Edgartown West Tisbury Road, turn left onto State Road. Follow for approximately 4.5 miles.
  3. Pass Chilmark Community Center on left and arrive at intersection immediately after. Take a right onto Menemsha Cross Road. Stay straight and proceed for 1 mile.
  4. At intersection at the end of Menemsha Cross Road, take a left onto North Road following the sign for Menemsha Inn and then a quick right at the sign for our driveway.
